Headteacher’s Message
It is a pleasure to share with readers a snapshot of what life is like as a child or parent
at Mytham.We hope this introduction helps you to decide whether Mytham is the best place for your child to learn but please feel free to request a tour of the school or attend one of our Open Days in the Autumn Term. We are always happy to meet new families!
Our curriculum and ethos is underpinned by ‘The Mytham Way’. We aim for our pupils to become Mytham STARS of today and the future. We promote respect, kindness and resilience. These are all values which enable children to be ‘The best that they can be.’
Parents and children will see – and feel – welcomed and valued by everyone at Mytham.
Mytham offers children more than just academic achievement. We also focus on looking after their emotional health and wellbeing. Mytham pupils have opportunities to help others, be creative, understand their feelings and reflect on values. We promote equality and tolerance and respect for their environment and community.
‘Leaders set out a well-ordered curriculum to support pupils’ personal development. Pupils learn a great deal about different religions and beliefs. Pupils have a secure understanding of fundamental British values, for example, democracy and individual liberty. They understand how they are relevant to their lives in and out of school. Ofsted were very complimentary about how well behaved our pupils are;
‘The school is a calm and orderly environment for pupils. Children in the early years settle into school, share equipment with each other and become confident learners. Pupils behave well at social times. Pupils said that staff deal with behaviour in a fair and consistent way. Pupils live up to the high expectations set out by leaders for their behaviour. They concentrate hard on their learning in lessons. Lessons are not interrupted. This allows pupils to learn without distraction. Pupils are polite and courteous to every member of the school community.’ Ofsted February 2023
We are proud of the broad and balanced curriculum that we offer. This is a bespoke, Mytham created curriculum which, where possible, is based on the local area and the community the children live in. Staff and Governors are committed to providing a creative curriculum full of inspirational topics in a vibrant setting
‘Reading is a core part of the school’s curriculum. Leaders ensure that opportunities for pupils to read are integrated into all subject curriculums. Pupils are exposed to different texts, including books which support pupils’ wider cultural understanding. From the earliest opportunity, children in early years begin to learn sounds, well-known nursery rhymes and songs.’ OFSTED February 2023
‘Pupils appreciate the rich variety of experiences that are offered by staff. These include visits to different museums and the chance to fundraise for the local community. Pupils enjoy the opportunity to learn a musical instrument, represent the school at sporting events and take part in residential visits.’ Ofsted February 2023
‘Mytham Little Stars Nursery’ is a jewel in the Mytham crown and very much the starting point for an outstanding journey through Early Years and into school beyond. I am so proud of our Early Years offer and sure that new parents will be impressed with the level of care and provision. Children from 2 years old can experience everything Mytham has to offer! Mytham staff want every child to be the best they can possibly be. They are aspirational for the school and pupils;

Everyone, pupils, staff and Governors, work hard here at Mytham. We are constantly developing our provision. Currently we are working towards ‘Artsmark Gold’: An award for excellence in the Arts. We are renewing our Eco Schools Green Flag award and we have a whole school focus on Children’s Emotional health and Wellbeing. We have lots of fun too and there is always an event or celebration being planned!
Staff and our committed Governors are very proud that Ofsted recognised that Safeguarding is a strength of the school

Parents feel part of their child’s journey. Ofsted reported that ‘Parents value the work of leaders and teachers and said that they are willing to go the extra mile’ Ofsted July 2017.
Friends of Mytham (PTA) offer events and fundraisers. We have Parent Governors and we love to welcome parents/ grandparents on a volunteering basis e.g volunteer reading or supporting Forest School activities. We have Parent Workshops and ‘Stay and Play’ events, where class teachers will share how best you can support your child with their learning. So plenty for parents to get involved with! We ensure that parents are aware of their child’s progress and how they are enjoying school. We have two Parent Consultations; Autumn and Spring and a written report in the summer term.
